A large amount of oil & gas reserves do need to stay in the ground in order to prevent catastrophic ecological & economic collapses globally. That's not an 'opinion' that is a scientific fact, one we are being told to self-silence on. Be vary wary of anyone who cannot state - directly - that fact.

Spoiler: it is very hard to remove GHGs from the atmosphere and impossible to do so sustainably at scale. This means that stopping catastrophic climate change requires the fastest possible wind down of fossil carbon mining and burning.
