One of the most useful mythologies of modernity is the idea that there is an economy which exists totally independent of interested parties. Who is saving this money? Does “the economy” just store it under the mattress?

Someone has to tell the truth.

The US blockade of Cuba has no legal basis under international law. An island without an air force or modern artillery is not a security threat; it's a neighbour. If the United States genuinely believes otherwise, the UN Security Council exists for exactly that purpose.

Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.
