Who COULDNāT use some good news? ā Scientists with the Yurok Tribe say that two of dozens of condors released to the wild in Humboldt County since 2022, to reestablish the endangered birds, have paired up, built a nest in a redwood tree and appear to be tending to an egg.ā

Know what doesn't suck right now, or ever? Nature. This Pale-striped Poison Frog (Ameerega hahneli) was hopping across an open area at our NE Peru field station, on his way to find a suitable wet place to deposit his tadpoles (such as the axils of a bromeliad).

This is Zephyr. He is a professionally trained bed bug detector. When he recognizes the scent of live bed bugs, he gives an alert by sitting and smiling exuberantly at his handler. We're pretty sure no one has ever been more excited to find bed bugs in their life. 13/10 (TT: emmercrew)

Minnesota National Guard members have arrived at a federal building and were directed to distribute donuts, coffee, and hot chocolate to anti-ICE protesters. Guard members were issued reflective vests so they would not be mistaken for federal agents.

Shocked by the awful death of Rob Reiner. I spoke with him for over an hour last night. We talked about his work and his plans for the future. I always enjoyed his company. We met at his Dad's in 1975. Last thing he said to me was "See you next year.." Such a terrible end. Such a sweet man.

I'm surprised how many people are quick to make a defense of violence in my replies. For them it's necessary, foreclosing on its use is a privilege. For me, non-violence is a powerful tool. It is the lesson of one of my heroes, Bayard Rustin. 1/

The best Memorial Day speech is only 271 words and wasn't delivered on Memorial Day, but on November 19, 1863. Read it carefully, it's the most important speech in American military history (and maybe all of American history).
