Quick introductory post: I teach English as a Second and Third language and Ethics to high schoolers in Germany. I also support students with Special Educational Needs and am a passionate advocate for accommodations for those who need them. I've been teaching for >20 years and still love it.

Because international media largely seems to struggle to choose the correct wording to describe what’s happening: the US, under the self describes „peace president“, attacked another country and kidnapped its president. That is factual, no matter how bad or illegitimate Maduro‘s rule is (very bad).

Alt text: a photo of Dasi Oran, Ghor Senator from the Star Wars series Andor, overlaid with the text, which is a quote from season 2: "They have no shame, do they? They don't even bother to lie badly any more. I suppose that's the final humiliation."

Dammit. I thought I'd calculated A's carbs perfectly: weighed things, measured her drink etc etc. Obviously got something wrong because her BGL is through the roof. Sorry, kiddo.

It's the little things. We're on holiday and taking it sloooooow. A is napping on the couch next to me and apart from the delight of having a 13 year old who still wants to hang out with her Mum, I can hear her Omnipod ticking away delivering her basal dose of insulin. I'm so grateful for this tech.

In 1811-12, the Luddites attempted to resist some of the first waves of machine-industrialisation. They were crushed. 20 years later "pauper apprentices" (= orphan children) were being SOLD to factory-owners as cheap labour. Think on, dear hearts, think on.

Dragging myself to school for the last time this year. We finish at 12.40 today so I only have one lesson with my precious Baccalaureate class. This term has kicked everyone's butt. Roll on the holidays.

An English phrase for when someone is getting on your nerves is “you’re driving me up the wall.” A German equivalent is auf die Palme bringen, which essentially means “you’re driving me up the palm tree.”

New in PN: A band-aid on a festering hand wound "The Epstein files and illegal boat strikes aren’t the only coverups taking place right now in the White House. There’s also something clearly wrong with the president’s health that the administration is trying to conceal from the public."

Hey,
#EduSky
... Does your system expect/allow ranking of students? Either in their reports (like, mark 78%, rank 11/30) or when returning tests and assignments? If so, is it ever made public? (Like "congratulations X, Y and Z, you all got an A?")
