In 1836, Henry Cole found a dead rat with a stomach full of chewed-up documents in the public records office. It was used as proof that the archives needed a better home, becoming the National Archives. Today, the National Archives shop sells soft toy rats.

Continuing the marathon clearout of my parents house. Came across this interesting cutting from a 1993 edition of the Radio Times about a programme called Two Seconds to Midnight. It predicts that in 2043 electricity will be generated by renewables and that we will use TVs for our shopping.

Glad to be here for a few days. It's still sunny (for now) but the temperature is bearable.

My personal heart plan on this particular day is head north... Although, it's not all good. They have a Reform Council now and a sinkhole has opened up in a road outside my Dad's care home.

In the early 90s, bottles of Abbey Well sparkling mineral water featured a lovely portrait of David Hockney. From memory he was sitting in a room full of balloons. I don't remember the artist and can't find on Google but remember drinking the water at National Trust places. Anyone else recall this?

Have spent the last week staying at a sheep farm in the Staffordshire Peak District. It's a gorgeous part of the world that I was unfamiliar with until now. I also know a lot more about sheep and what they like to eat. They love digestive biscuits but buttercups are poisonous!
