Yesterday was Hourly Comic Day! I posted these on Instagram yesterday. Let me regale you with my exciting adventures!

Over the Holidays, I knit a scarf with sleeves on a knitting loom. It turned out terrible: it's curling inwards and won't block, and it's not wide enough. So I decided to start over, unravelling the first attempt as I knit the new one with a bigger loom and better, more fun pattern that won't curl.

I keep thinking about the plot holes thing and I'm remembering a video I saw recently. It was a review of Saving Me, a show on which I was the storyboard supervisor then assistant director. Many of the complaints the reviewer had were, in his opinion, plot holes.

Last day off today before getting back to work tomorrow. This new year will bring several changes to my work life and that will require adjustments in my schedule. I'm just in a bit of an incertainty limbo about one aspect and it's making me antsy, I want confirmation so I can plan!

Feeling useful is not a good substitute for feeling passionate.

THIS. Let storytellers tell their story. Even if it doesn't go how you expect. Even if the character's reaction makes you angry. Be patient. Sure, discuss, speculate, analyse, but keep in mind that different creators think differently, and if stories went exactly how you expect, they'd be boring.

It's time for Artist vs Art and here is mine. I have done very little digital work outside of actual work, so I chose analog pieces. All of these are from the same sketchbook - amazing how much the lighting changes the colour of the paper!

After I finished the first recycled jeans bag, my husband gave me another dead pair of jeans. He also had complained before about not having a light laptop bag for when he travels for work. He prefers to pack everything in a small duffel and do carry-on. So I did my crafty wife thing. :)

I was sorting some files into folders and found something I was planning on cleaning up and colouring over 15 years ago (ye gods, probably got too busy with other work that paid bills). I thought you all might be amused by my sketches on this old Gargoyles Meme by Fluffy Nabs.

For my storyboard class, I split a 22 minute script between my 27 students, had them each board a section, and I'm in the process of assembling the episode, grading each section as I add it. It is a chaotic mixture indeed, and I do not have enough time to properly guide 27 students. This is nuts.

Perimenopause. Wheee! Saw my doctor and got a prescription for HRT which includes an estrogen cream, so I told my gymnast son, who's been working really hard at building muscle and strenght, to not use it. The below is only a slight exaggeration of what happened next.

So much grading to do. So many storyboards to open, review, check against the rubric, grade, close. My ADHD coping skills are no good right now. I'm here instead of on the work! Someone kick me into gear. It has to get done.

It's getting to be that time again where I get tired and restless and need to do something to get out of my routine and make something new but I can't think of what to make or do and this time around I have tendonitis in both elbows so I can't write, draw, knit or climb walls like I normally would.

Teaching day. I'm behind on grading their work, but tbf I do work full time on top of teaching and there's 27 students in my class. The teaching semester is always difficult on my time and energy level. And because I teach storyboarding, there's no such thing as short homework and fast grading.

Working with an absolutely excellent sound designer for my show. He has some funny ideas and he's open to trying new things, he's also really fast at making changes on the fly during a review. I suggested that maybe using a squeaky hinge sound could work for a silly walk, and he said, "Hold on."

J'adore les sessions d'enregistrement avec les acteurs. Recording sessions with actors are so great. Today, one of my students came to the studio to see the magic happen and it was a great session. The actors, voice director, sound tech are fantastic, skilled people who are so inspiring. 🤩

I am a ball of amorphousness and I cannot move from where I am. I have grading to do and next class to prep material for, yet I can do nothing but stare at my phone and feel the warmth of my seat on my back.

I'm pretty happy with this one. Very much a DTIYS, because I wasn't trying to be specifically on model, I just wanted to have some fun with it. Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII, inks and grey-toned markers on tan paper.

My 2D students pitched their stories today for their film. The production team included myself as the storyboard teacher, Rui, the animation teacher and Mathieu, the program coordinator. Our job is to find and flag any expected issues in production, scope and clarity of content.

Ooh I like this idea. Art vs Artist. To be fair... the Scary Godmother costume art was done at a time when work exhaustion was reaching burnout... but I still like that drawing.

Teaching and working full time makes my September to January intense. Today I have to finish up a posing review so the team can get to animating this week, and I have a bunch of homework to grade. Tomorrow, the 2D anim students pitch us their short film, then I might have more posing to review.
