My statement

the point of a game is not to beat it, it is to play it. difficulty is only "a problem" if it is "in the way" of beating the game, which is an issue in the mindset of the player, not in the structure of the game. redoing parts of a fun game is not a punishment, it's an invitation to hang out

its been awhile but a project i've worked on the entire year finally got released! i was fortunate enough to do the designs of the official Sonic x Higround SA2 themed keyboards+mousepad. it was a journey. as far as i know, we are the first to officially use SA2 models in licensed merch.

starting to get annoyed at the complete buzzwordification of "gameplay loop". its not a good thing or a bad thing its litterally just what you do in the game. 99.9999% of games have them on account of having a thing that you do in the game.

We need a word for indie games with budgets less than $1 million dollars imo. Anyways a bunch of great indie games I've been waiting ages for all somehow came out on the same week.

a video game is really quite an eclectic thing. The "game" part shares a lot of space with narrative aspects in totally different ratios depending on the game. I think its part of why game discussion can be frustrating. people can have such varying ideas of what a game even should be.

I think theres something special about fighting games with no input buffer. Theres a certain ambiguity it adds to interactions that would otherwise be governed entirely by framedata. In games with no buffer theres always the chance of your timing being just that tiny bit better than your opponent.

if you're trying to find an aesthetic or theme for something you should pretty much always start by just slamming two concepts together and seeing what happens. its impossible to iterate on one single point but its very easy to keep ideas coming about an interesting combination.
