This fellowship was a huge part of the reason I am continuing to do climate science, and it has supported so many incredible people. These effects on early-career researchers, who do some of the most impactful work, is going to have long-lasting implications for science and scientists.

It's surreal to sit on a call with NOAA cooperative institute employees actively forecasting hazards that may affect the US while the US Senate effective terminates those employees and their work. The American public does not yet realize the devastation inflicted on our scientific institutions

It's outrageous that NASA GISS, one of the best earth & space science labs in the world, is being kicked out of its Columbia home. The outstanding scientists who work there can't say that publicly, but I can. And so can you --- call your reps, esp. (but not only) if you live in NYC or NY state.

I’d prefer to hear university officials stand up and pledge themselves to fight for the rights their students are losing. Still, given his colleagues and his audience, I don’t think Jelani Cobb is necessarily wrong to counsel individual caution. It’s just not much of a free country anymore, is it?
