A bit underplayed that the Homan sting didn't reportedly come out of a public corruption investigation, it was a counter-intelligence one. Which means they somehow made the not-very-far leap to him from initially targeting a foreign and almost certainly state actor.

this is something I do get frustrated with in Left circles: the tendency to see men with guns in the employ of the state as this undifferentiated mass: it's actually pretty consequential what exactly their organizational culture and norms are, and how they perceive themselves.

Authorities - what a lot of people don't appreciate (mostly because until recently it was taken for granted) is that there is (or at least is supposed to be) direct traceability between any order for military action involving the use of force and the authority authorizing that action

Retired USMC JAG here. A pre-strike legal review that established the strike was lawful would more or less immunize the people who carried it out. The issue is that doesn’t appear to have happened, although it would have been mandatory and routine in the pre-Hegseth DoD.

The message Democrats should be pushing is that by firing/ignoring/pressuring JAGs to make illegal acts easier, Hegseth is exposing junior servicemembers to increased personal legal liability.

Remember that this case was one of three examples (the other being Adam Schiff and Lisa Cook) where Trump official claimed mortgage fraud, and asked DOJ to investigate. The weakness of one of the James cases casts further doubt that the Cook/Schiff cases can hold up to scrutiny.
