I’m on the DC mall with the in-laws doing tourist things, and I have seen exactly 1 MAGA hat. In the last 10 years I’ve always seen tons and tons of them downtown, especially on a busy holiday weekend. I have NEVER seen such an absence of them, and it is lovely.

My first attempt at playing Donna Lee on bass! (Recoded on the Ubass for simplicity) 🎸🎸🎸 I only finished learning the melody this morning, and there’s still lots of room for improvement, but I’m happy with how quickly I picked it up!

I’m finally learning the Jaco Pastorius version of Donna Lee, which is kind of a right of passage for bass guitar players. Learning the notes is the easy part (though not that easy). Playing fast with the right feel and articulation is what makes it hard!

I had jury duty selection today but was ultimately not chosen for a trial. Part of me is very glad I don’t have to deal with missing a week of work, but part of me was interested in going through the process of being a juror.

I’ve been very fortunate to have known trans people for most of my life. I grew up with a trans friend, my college thesis advisor was trans, and I have watched several good friends go through that journey of self-discovery. My life is so much richer having known so many trans folks <3

I have this thing where every mistake and failure is burned into my brain, but the same is not true for success. I can remember a mistake from a decade ago and feel pain and shame. The only way for me to feel the joy of success is to to have a new experience of success. Maybe this is normal?

One thing I’ve observed while working on a project with a subcontractor that uses Chat-GPT a lot (much to my annoyance) is that it’s basically a Dunning-Kruger machine. They are speaking very confidently and wrong about things they have no experience in because they plugged it into Chat-GPT.

The giant education funding study I’ve been working on for the last 8 months just went through a peer review and they said it was really good work 🥹 I’ve had a ton of imposter syndrome on this project (as someone without a PhD), so this was insanely validating. Maybe I do know what I’m doing haha
