Klara Hess was a "test-tuber." When the Sirius system was settled, thousands of fertilized embryos were used to aid in population growth. As Trip's trusted right hand, she was known to be a bit short and blunt in engineering.

Annie Naiman was the junior-most computer technician aboard Enterprise. She had previously served with most of the engine crew aboard Saratoga. Hoshi Sato was her best friend, going back to when they were roommates at Starfleet Training. Naiman loved horror movies and Vulcan culture.

Vardan Namod was the youngest son of Dr. Soraya Namod, one of the key scientists in the Warp 5 Program. She designed the antimatter injection system.

The OTV type K42 shuttlepod was constructed by the aerospace firm Antonov in Kyiv, Ukraine. While the pods aboard Enterprise were officially called Shuttlepod 1 and 2, the crew affectionately named them Eagle and Aquarius, after the LEMs on Apollo 11 and 13, respectively.

Did you know that...? For Operation Vanguard, Enterprise carried 120 people: 83 crew, 36 MACOs, and 1 civilian reporter. To save space, most of the crew were required to hot rack with each other while the MACOs received their own quarters. Many weren't happy about this.

Happy birthday to Ashley Judd, who made her TV debut as Ensign Robin Lefler on Star Trek: The Next Generation. She's most remembered for helping Wesley save the Enterprise in "The Game," but her first appearance was in "Darmok."

Not entirely true. Archer did select a great number of the crew, but not all of them. Trip brought on his entire engine crew from Saratoga. Chef Griffin selected the galley staff. Dr. Hendron personally chose most of the science staff before his tragic death.

#OnThisDay, 2153: Eight days after the Xindi attack, Prime Minister Hanna Rocard cancels all Unity Day celebrations, set for March 31 to mark the establishment of United Earth. A few cities and districts try to hold theirs, but even then, they are muted affairs.

Correction: Apparently nurses are supposed to be commissioned officers. This is something in real life militaries, and Chapel and Ogawa were both lieutenants. So Nurse Fuller is actually a Lieutenant JG.
