This is a fantastic video essay and puts into words pretty much all my complaints about how contemporary Star Trek looks. I'm glad someone else dislikes the "space fog" as much as I do.

I gave up watching the "D-Con Chamber" podcast a while ago, mostly because Dominic Keating couldn't stop interrupting his guests. But tonight, I'm trying to watch their most recent episode because they interview Paul Giamatti and my god, Dominic is just insufferable. The guy can't shut up.

As much as I love The Next Generation Starfleet uniforms, my favorite Starfleet uniform is the sleek & the matching. For that reason, the “Monster Maroon” from the Original Series movies and the grey and black from The Next Generation movies/Deep Space Nine remain my favorites.

I’ve been reading Matt Gelb’s articles for years. His Phillies coverage is the only reason I subscribe to The Athletic. This is an all-timer. Great work.

Nick certainly has opinion about how he was treated, but from the outside Rob gave him so much rope and the fact that it took until the middle of 2025 for him to finally use the body of evidence to not play Nick everyday and to use a defensive replacement speaks to an immense level of patience.

I know Nick Castellanos has his backers in Philly. But I for one am glad I never have to see another swing low and away from him ever again.

I have to believe that there’s an article coming from Gelb or Zolecki detailing what exactly happened between Castellanos and the Phillies. Feels like we’ve been waiting for this one for a long time.

This is the right take. The Phillies are paying Castellanos $20 million. I don't feel sorry for him, especially as his poor attitude became a thing last year. I'm not shedding any tears for Castellanos here.

I've finished the "Bourne" movies, as it was my choice for this winter's franchise watch-through. The first three were a lot of fun, with "Ultimatum" being the standout. Unfortunately, the last two entries were bad, with "Legacy" being an irrelevant dud of a movie letterboxd.com/michaelstark...

I don't really want to give this MAGA halftime show thing any attention because it is very stupid and these people do not deserve the attention. That said, if you choose an activity involving Kid Rock when there is literally any alternative, you have made poor life choices.

It's sort of crazy how streaming subscriptions can sneak up on you. I tallied up what my wife and I have subscriptions to. Far too many and far too much money. Anyway, HBO, Paramount+ and Hulu are now gone.

My feelings on the episode aside, this was all approached with the best intentions. DS9 is revered and it’s nice to see it treated with such respect.

I can now say I’ve seen Starfleet Academy. I knew about “the thing” that happens because someone spilled the beans in a Reddit thread last month. The last few minutes were nice. Well-intentioned. But that will be the first and last episode of this show I’ll watch. Definitely not for me.

Alfre Woodard's performance as Lily is a top-tier in a movie that is full of highlights. The movie simply is not the same without her performance.

We don’t talk enough about Alfre Woodard’s performance in Star Trek: First Contact. Stunning. And among other things, brought out some of Patrick Stewart’s moments. He rarely had a partner who could meet his energy, but she did. 🖖🏽

Deep Space Nine is the pinnacle of Star Trek storytelling. Its end does not need follow up. Some things are better left alone.

Catherine O’Hara was the rare type of performer who immediately changed the energy of what you were watching. She owned scenes. She commanded your attention. Rest in peace to one of the greats.

6 years ago today, Star Trek: Picard premiered. It brought back my all-time favorite character in any medium. While that first season is uneven, I think it gets too much hate, and works well as an interesting character study. I’ll always defend it, and ridicule some of the dumb stuff it did.

I'm rewatching Star Trek: The Original Series this year to celebrate the 60th anniversary. I know this isn't a new opinion, but The Corbomite Manuever rips.
