It shouldn't be a surprise, but this writing about code applies so well to other areas of expertise, too. Maybe all of them. I encounter problems in my animation job that I probably learned how to solve after bashing my head against scenes for days, years ago. The experience IS the work.

Beginning animators please be wary of any flat rate gigs. Animation generally takes quite a bit of time to produce. I just saw a posting for freelancing animated GIF files thwt said “up to 1500/month” Always do the math. I’m sure there are other things you could do for more than $9.37/hour.

for the past few months I've gotten well meaning messages from students asking how to break in, and then when they show me their boards, they're lacking in fundamental draftsmanship. I hate to say it, but the industry is no longer at a place where we can train people to draw better anymore

It’s not my business what you do! If you feel badly, you go live with it. You can’t pretend you care about a community and then also burden them with absolving your guilt in materially supporting their oppressors. It’s exhausting! Don’t make your feelings my problem!

The “separating the art from the artist” conversation uniquely bothers me. I feel strongly that everybody goes through old discourse, and that’s fine. This though? This one persists because people seem to want to be absolved of whatever little trespass they’ve already resolved to commit.

I don't think I can explain the euphoria I felt when I read, "OpenAI’s decision to exit the video generation business" the shit doesn't work. we've known since the outset it doesn't work. It has never been able to do what they claim and when they're made to buck up, they back out. It's a scam!
