Who went and gave my characters *agency* on me and at what point does arguing with your own fictional characters cross into grippy sock territory?

I just finished my 20th book of the month and I might have to get myself a pizza tomorrow just on principle. If Pizza Hut ever let millennials have Book It back, even if it was just for a month, they’d be able to ride that loyalty wave until we’re all dead.

Took a break from reading fantasy to give Ian McEwan’s Sweet Tooth a go and it’s a little unsettling how much of the Cold War setting feels awfully applicable to right now.

I had to say no to an interview for a job I’m exceptionally well qualified for and very interested in because it would have involved coming up with enough money to move to the other side of the country into an impossibly expensive housing market. I have a kid. I can’t do roommates.

Currently on one of those book-a-day reading binges and it’s pretty great. I know it won’t last, so I’m just tearing through as many as I possibly can while it does.

I had to buy a *new* paperback copy of something because I couldn’t find it at the library or an ebook available anywhere that wasn’t Amazon. Holy cow, they’re $18 now?!

Distinctly American experience: Receiving an envelope from a health care provider you haven’t been to in over a year and being relieved that it’s a privacy breach notice instead of a bill.

This big job market revision is surprise to absolutely no one who has been job hunting in the last two years. Throwing out hundreds of applications, getting zero responses, and having the government blow smoke up your ass about the whole thing only to adjust the numbers later is so crazy-making.

If anybody wants a spicy book rec, I tore through both of Kerri Maniscalco’s Prince of Sin books in the last two days. It’s 1:30am and I have to work I’m the morning and I had to finish the second one. That’s about as good a recommendation as I can give.

I’m down to volunteer for trying it out. For science.

I don’t write in anticipation of ever having readers when I’m *alive*. Too much pressure. But I will admit that I do entertain the fantasy of having people clean out my house after I’m dead and getting a kick out of it.

If there’s one thing Netflix is good for, it’s for showing me really neat shows that were canceled after one or two seasons three years too late.

I must admit that I do not know this one, but I’m happy for all of y’all posting about it.

Duo tells me this makes me an A2 in Welsh now. I don’t know if that’s true or not since nobody seems to offer any kind of CEFR testing in Welsh outside of Wales? I’ll get around to doing the “real” distance courses one of these days.
