White Americans keep looking to 1930s Germany for lessons on authoritarianism, but they ignore Black Americans who have survived it here. Slavery, Jim Crow, and racialized state violence are forms of American authoritarianism.

In 2020, Trump tried to overturn the election. In 2024, he built an army of election deniers. This year, he is raising the stakes. He said he wants to control vote counting. He suggested that he should've seized ballot boxes. Today, he said "We shouldn’t even have an election" at all.

ICE + Trump will continue until there are so many of us that force them to stop. It will require a diversity of tactics-- not just protests (but go if you're able!) but strikes, slowdowns, many more creative kinds of actions. From a cross section of the population. Because that's how we will win.

My daughter's school in Richfield, MN (adjacent to Minneapolis) is closing tomorrow due of out-of-control federal agents. Fourth graders spent the week building walls of snow at recess to protect their classmates from ICE. This isn't about immigration enforcement, it's about terror.
