Canada faces pressure over killing of citizen in Israeli strike on Lebanon <article data-history-node-id="440595" about="https://www.middleeasteye.net/live-blog/live-blog-update/canada-faces-pressure-over-killing-citizen-israeli-strike-lebanon" class="live-blog-update default clearfix"> <h2> <a href="https://www.middleeasteye.net/live-blog/live-blog-update/canada-faces-pressure-over-killing-citizen-israeli-strike-lebanon" rel="bookmark"> <span class="field field-title">Canada faces pressure over killing of citizen in Israeli strike on Lebanon</span> </a> </h2> <div class="content"> <div class="field field-field-text"><p>The Canadian government is facing growing calls to pursue accountability after a Canadian citizen was killed in an Israeli attack in southern Lebanon last month.</p> <p>Hassan Haidar, a 38-year-old father of five from Windsor, Ontario, was killed in an Israeli drone strike on the village of Qana near Tyre on 10 April.</p> <p>Al Jazeera questioned Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand over Ottawa’s decision to ask Israel to investigate the killing.</p> <p>“This strikes me as odd only because if a Canadian citizen died in Ukraine, would you be asking Moscow to investigate?” Al Jazeera’s Scott McLean asked Anand.</p> <p>She replied, “We’re requesting all of the information that might be available, leading to the death of a Canadian citizen.”</p> <p>Anand added that the government “will ensure that no stone is left unturned”.</p> <p>The National Council of Canadian Muslims criticised Ottawa’s approach, saying “we cannot accept the suspect investigating their own crimes”.</p> </div> </div> </article> https://www.middleeasteye.net/live-blog/live-blog-update/canada-faces-pressure-over-killing-citizen-israeli-strike-lebanon
