So yeah, I enjoyed X-Bomber a lot. It just hit all the right notes for me, and ended up having more in common with Kawaii Jenny than I expected. That is a good thing. I give it a "Someone give this Queen a damn promotion" out of 10. 🧵

Like, imagine Star Wars except Luke Skywalker can pilot GoLion. That is what this show feels like whenever Dai-X shows up. The Gelma Empire, for all their military might, are useless against a giant bipedal mecha that shoots missiles. It's like the greatest cross of genres.

I will say that I absolutely adore the fact that Dai-X, the Super Robot of the show, ended up being one of my favorite parts about it for two reasons: One, it was played by an actual stuntman. And two, it's really funny how your average evil empire cannot fight the damn thing.

That is probably why I am glad this isn't an anime adaptation. I think the fact that it is a live action puppet show adds so much to the proceedings of what is otherwise a standard Space Opera. It is a strain on the budget and filming, but when it works it freaking works.

See, as a Tokusatsu enjoyer, I absolutely adore the craftsmanship in this show. The miniatures, the sets, the models, the explosions, this is the stuff I live for and was absolutely my favorite part about it. But at the same time, this limited their storytelling options.

It's been a few days since I finished it, so time for some final, final thoughts on #XBomber! TL;DR No, the robot name is NOT X-Bomber.

Most recently I dropped #Transformers because of this vibe change art team shift. DWJ on art was followed perfectly by Jorge Corona, their styles are like peas in a pod. But then Dan Mora comes on afterwards and ot... just doesn't give me what I want from the book anymore.

The more #comics I make, the more I realize when i read comics what I value and like in them. Jed MacKay's #XMen run primarily rotates between artists of the same ilk, 90s inspired, detailed, lots of line work. But then issue 18 has an artist who draws like "everyone" today and it... disrupts desire
