Every trip I take to #Japan I end up with so many great new #AnimeFigures to add to the shelves (and don't forget #Tokusatsu merch!) so I ahhhve a whole ass project ahead of me.

Another slow week in the post-vacation #ReadingGoal slump. I read a chunk of manga, but didn't finish it so #DCComics #Lobo stands alone as the sole #comicbook I completed in the week. I'm struggling to regain my art and reading routines after the disruption of habit vacation caused. ADHD Y'all!

Am I the only one who has never really enjoyed the whole "May the 4th be with you " hubbub? #StarWars is super influential amd meaningful to me too, but it's kinda... a bit much year after year.

Don't ask me how much I spent in #Shibuya , #Shinjuku , or #Akihabara at the #Arcades ... but my shelves are gonna be fuller!

#Tokusatsu #SpiderMan is PEAK & I really hope that #Sony & #Marvel can find a way for him to appear in the next #SpiderVerse movie. While I suspect it is highly unlikely, it does feel like he would be an amazing way to sneak in a character that's animated using like Stop Motion and then blended in.

The Iron Cross ARmy grunts in the #Tokusatsu #SpiderMan are possibly the most endearing Toku cannon-fodder with their absurd big orange noses with breathing vents in the bottom. Arming them only with swords so you never have to show Spider-Man dodging gunfire was a "choice" though.

At least #Tokusatsu #SpiderMan is willing to go OFF THE WALLS with its monster design. This is a prop, not a suit.Also, super #$YOKAI vibes from a disembodied floating giant brain + spinal cord. I wonder why we don't see more abstract monsters like this in Toku, almost everything is just humanoid.

Modern English, on a car from outer space that landed on Earth during the battle of Sekigahara... man #Tokusatsu #SpiderMan sure is a trip. LOL

"Professor Monster" is such a fantastically cornball name for this main antagonist in the 70s #SpiderMan #Tokusatsu show. Also, what a simple and yet strong design for his cybernetics. Lets the actor emote effectively but also looks menacing. Well, menacing enough for children's television.

I don't think I will ever get over how much I love that early #KamenRider villain designers looked at all these goofy #shocker #Tokusatsu costumes they'd made and went "You know what this design really needs? A #ProWrestling championship belt!"

I unironically ❤️‍🔥the fashion in this era of #Japanese TV, #Tokusatsu / #KamenRider especially wouldn't have developed to have a track-record for with-the-times cool styling of its characters had it started in a different decade, I'd wager. KR especially goes out of its way to dress its Protags well

Also, in modern #Tokusatsu you'd never have the Mantis Man having to bust out and hold a Kusari-Gama awkwardly through his mantis claw mitten. The ball and chain part would be like biologically attached to the character's suit, but OG #KamenRider hadn't gotten there yet, and at leats its themed well

Also, OG #KamenRider has one hell of a limitation on his #henshin , I can't think of any more modern series that has ever really played with a rider's belt, or #SuperSentai morpher etc., that could be defeated by sticking a man in a hole where a breeze can't get to.

One of the greatest joys of OG #KamenRider (and older #Tokusatsu in general) is how experimental their #filmmaking was. There were no established tropes for how a #henshin scene should or could look, so they just tried unique things like this series of rotating animated stills. Rotoscoped maybe?

#Animagear are one of my newer obsessions. They're candy toys, technically, and they're little #ModelKits too. Made by #Bandai and I'm super excited to finally share them with you and find all of y'all who are interested in them too!

A #GundamBuildFighters show with 2026 tech involved would be cool. But also a more realistic approach to finding bits. Like a combination of using the #Gunpla kit, scrounging for cool bits in other toy/model lines, and using #3dPrinting and modeling in #Blender along with sculpting green stuff.

Last week was rough on the #ReadingGoal progress. I wanted to come off of my vacation with a strong outing to set my numbers back on track but jetlag, a cold, starting a new medication, and my day job had other plans. Only one #DCcomics #comicbook got read, but damn I proved the art so much.

What an absolutely gut-wrenchingly perfect episode of a #cartoon this was. #Mr.Freeze in #BatmanBeyond is the perfect encapsulation of his character, never truly wanting to be a villain but cornered by his ego, his DNA, the world around him he can't really live in. Sub-30 minutes and I'm tearing up.

8 years since we met in person, 9~10 knowing him online, I finally saw HonWan wrestle! W/o him, my coverage of #Chinese #ProWrestling would've been un-detailed, inaccurate, guess work on names + events. He's helped me so much & I only saw him wrestle in video. Now he's in #Japan training @ Itoh Dojo

I find the formula for #Metalder villains to be really interesting. Often they are given fleshed out personalities and backstories, often they are recurring or resurrected. Quite unlike my typical experience of most #Tokusatsu monster of the week characters. It feels like it sets #MetalHero apart.

So, I uh... just found this from a Japanese seller at a good price and great shipping costs... so in 3-6 weeks this #TopGunder figure from killer #Tokusatsu #MetalHero series #Metalder will be added to my shelves... Surprisingly, first piece of Metalder merch I buy and it's not the protagonist.

#Metalder is the first #MetalHero series I'm watching cuz something about the style really hits the right buttons for me. I love the diversity of the #GodNeros armies, like these Armoured Army members just being humans in gear, and the style of the scanning/targeting effects is so stylish #Tokusatsu

How is it that I totally enjoy the #Tokusatsu goofiness of making a "Robot" Doberman talk by clearly feeding it something in the OG #MetalHero series #Metalder (it makes me laugh and I find it endearing) but in the new #Gavan from #ProjectR.E.D. I find the little emotion tubes and props bad goofy?

I'm really TRYING to get into the new #Gavan from #ProjectR.E.D. but, despite #Tokusatsu being shamelessly silly and gimmick filled in general as far as TV shows are concerned... something about the tone, design, and gimmicks of this new series feels... a bit lame? Goofy in a bad way? We'll see...
