The funny thing is, as a Publix team leader, we've always had a 10 foot 10 second rule. The difference is if a customer is within 10 feet of you, you have 10 seconds to acknowledge them. A smile is nice, but just a "hello" or nod JIC the customer needs help is all that's needed. No forced smiles.
