The problem with “big tent” thinking is that it falls apart when you start testing it against real world scenarios. Im not going to stand in a tent with someone who wants to see anti-feminist, anti-minority, anti-poor policies enacted.

This framing is classic victim blaming. It’s saying well if you didn’t want x to happen you shouldn’t do y because horrendous z people exist. Like yeah I can see the equation you’re engaging in but let’s talk about z people. Z people are monsters and should themselves receive the focus.

My guy you have the logic backwards. The reason you’re comfortable saying this is because YOU “will be ok” no matter who is picked. The people actually affected may not be ok. Take a moment and ask yourself who you are voting to protect. Do you want to help people or is this just red v blue?

None of this is to convince us trans people, the actual targets of hate campaigns. They know we are small enough of a minority to not matter at all ballot box. BUT- if they can convince our allies that “it just has to be done” we lose our intersectional power and become irrelevant.

All of the noise telling trans people to sit down and shut up is targeted to other liberals on the fence. They are trying to build consensus and a permission structure to other liberals/presumed-leftists to abandon us and still feel good about themselves.

Absolutely this. Honestly, the discourse from liberals telling trans people to accept bad candidates shows me that conservatives have truly won on destroying trans rights. Liberals willing to sacrifice trans people isn’t a short term strategic position, this is their new policy.
