Labour’s reported disability benefit cuts are not just about budgeting but a belief: paid work is a virtue (and people who don’t perform it deserve a worse life than everyone else). My col. in tomorrow’s paper.

There is a shameful British tradition of demonising disabled people. Why is Labour reigniting it? | Frances Ryan
Ministers run away from a wealth tax and then concoct a punitive benefits system. They have made that choice and it’s immoral, says Guardian columnist Frances Ryan

Stop placing complex chronic illness patients on psych holds. If you don’t know how to treat someone, say so. Don’t tell them it’s all in their head. Placing patients in the psych ward breaks their trust, sets back their baseline and sends a clear message that they’re not safe in your care.

Dismissed and Disbelieved, Some Long COVID Patients Are Pushed Into Psychiatric Wards
The chronic illnesses that make doctors doubt their patients often start after what “should” be a short-lived sickness—like COVID-19.

There's a lovely indepth 'mix' from Molly Gray on NTS radio going out on Sunday at midday GMT. You can stream it 'live' from anywhere and often they archive shows for listening on catch up too. Anyway, here are the details!

Being chronically ill at Christmas can be lonely. Many of us deal with feelings of guilt and are gaslit for not being able to participate in family traditions. My article on how to find joy in the small things, how others can make the holidays accessible and a reminder that no one is alone:

When I had a violent stalker who would graphically describe how he would have me gang raped, puncture my organs and and break all my bones, I was told the police "couldn't do anything". Consider this a reminder that they absolutely ✨can✨ do something. They just don't care about YOU.

Another horrifying example of neglect leading to assisted dying: Normand Meunier (a quadriplegic) developed bedsores after being left FOUR days on ER gurney. He wasn’t turned & his pleas for a specialized mattress were ignored. He decided he didn’t want to “be a burden”

Below is a series of five articles I wrote about the experience of needing the hospital when disabled or chronically ill. For those low on spoons - or people who want to share the articles with friends or family - I compiled them into a single article here:

The big disadvantage of having art not solely as a hobby is that you never can stop thinking about work. It's always present in thoughts, subconsciously or not. Such an exhausting way of making a living but also a very privileged one.

With a fully remote team of just 20 employees, Bluesky has surpassed 20 million users in its first year since opening to the public and is stealing thunder from rivals hundreds of times its size. At a time when conventional wisdom among bosses is that workers must be in-person to be productive.
