We’re currently attending a meeting in Arklow, organised by @malcolmbyrne.bsky.social covering public transport issues between Wexford/Wicklow and Dublin. Increased rail and bus services are crucial in this region.

The population of Wexford's towns has grown hugely in the last 2 decades. Since 2005, Gorey has had a 60% population increase(!), Enniscorthy 30%, Rosslare Harbour 52% - the rail services on offer in Wexford have not kept up with this growth.

Many rail users in the south-east travel to and from train stations using both bike share schemes & their own bikes. Government should be encouraging people to travel using public transport and active travel as opposed to discouraging them doing so with unscientific, knee-jerk legislation.

Dublin to Rosslare line is reopening between Greystones and Wicklow following clearance of extensive debris on the line. Full services expected for today.

Adjustments to scheduled services Connolly-Rosslare this eve due to flooding along the line. 16:28 & 17:28 will amalgamate and serve as a bus transfer to Wicklow & train from Wicklow to Rosslare. 18:28 Connolly to Wexford & 20:08 Connolly to Gorey will be a bus transfer for the full journey.

Waterford (population 60,079) & Wexford (pop. 21,524) can easily sustain a rail service between them. In Scotland there are 8 daily trains between Fort William (pop. 15,757) and Mallaig (pop. 701). The South East has the existing infrastructure to deliver a top class rail network.

The line between Gorey and Wexford has reopened, this evening's trains will operate as a full service with no bus transfers.

Delays across rail services this morning because of #StormChandra. As far as we can see, bus transfers in operation between Wexford and Dublin (however there are major delays on N11 and M50). On days like today, having X as the only platform with substantial info on train delays is not good enough.

It's not acceptable that the only way to get live updates on public transport is by having an account on X which is now under investigation for CSAM. TFI and Irish Rail need to start providing accessible and reliable updates on their own platforms instead of relying on X. #SpeirGorm

Overcrowded carriages. Standing-room-only. Commuters say the 29000 commuter trains on the Dublin–Rosslare line are simply too small for demand. InterCity trains are used for short hops around Dublin, while Rosslare services are left with older, unsuitable stock.

Wexford town is the biggest town on the Rosslare line. Access by rail to Wexford Town comes up constantly. The first train from Dublin & Gorey arrives in the afternoon. In Day 2 of publishing commuter voices - commuters describe services that simply don’t line up with working lives.

Over the next few days we’ll be publishing real messages from commuters on the Dublin–Rosslare line, released via FOI. These aren’t press releases or talking points. They’re what people are actually telling Iarnród Éireann about their commute. The South East deserves better.

Considering recent events, we're incredulous as to why the only place you can access real time updates on delays/issues/cancellations for Irish Rail is on X. We'll be writing to them next week calling for them to move this service off X & on to their website where it's more accessible for all users.

The arrival of the new bicycle carriages across the Irish Rail fleet has definitely improved opportunities for multi-modal travel recently, but this is just 😍 A great way to encourage an active solution to that last kilometre of travel getting to and from the train!

SOUTH EAST ON TRACK CALLS ON GOVERNMENT NOT TO FORGET SOUTH-WEXFORD-WATERFORD RAIL LINE We condemn the apparent gov. decision to cancel the Wexford-Waterford rail line reopening & are calling for prioritisation of sustainable transport in our region to address congestion & improve housing options.

This is it. A new line to Donegal is very long term. Leaving it in while removing things like reopening an intact line between two urban centres that closed 15 years ago is a choice.

They've done it again, they've cut more rail projects. The most criminal one for me is cancelling the reopening of the Waterford-Wexford/Rosslare line. On the left is the All-island Rail Review published by the last government and on the right is the plan published today.

Really disappointing. Really shows a lack of political ambition in the South East and for rail infrastructure generally. As @feljin.ie points out, they’ve decided to put regional development on the back foot despite the feasibility of reopening the Waterford-Wexford line (which still exists).

There's no funding to reopen the Waterford-Wexford/Rosslare. The All-Island Rail Review recommended reopening this. It's only been closed since 2010 and is being maintained. Would have been huge for regional development.

Something we’ve been advocating for is an earlier train serving #Wexford from #Dublin. The first train of the day lands in Wexford Town and Rosslare Strand/Harbour after 12noon, which rules out using the train for business and leisure activities in the morning.

From today, the late evening departure from Wexford (9:35pm) and Enniscorthy (9:59pm) heading north no longer requires a change of trains at Gorey for those who wish to travel to Wicklow and Dublin. It's a minor change that will make your journey that little bit easier.

This is concerning re: additional trains for the Fleadh. This year, so far...instead of having the 50 additional services we got last year, there are 0. The only "additional service" listed is just a slight reschedule of an existing service by 10mins. Hopefully they're just late releasing info...
