Edomoji workshop yesterday! Tried my hand at a style based on kanteiryu - Edo period lettering recognised as distinctly Japanese. You see it on lanterns but it’s also used to great effect in the Taiko no Tatsujin series. Drew my first name in ateji but with 多 instead of 妥.

Yeah we famously passed the threshold where one person could master the sum of human knowledge somewhere around the beginning of the Enlightenment. We are now well into an era where it is not possible to know even a respectable fraction of all cultural production. Content in all directions.

Yeah, it's understandable to feel nostalgic for 'the old days' of animanga fandom, but how it is now and been for a long time now is what we all dreamed of back then, I feel? We wanted as many people as possible to enjoy it, to take it seriously as an entertainment and artform.

One of those things a lot of folks need to accept these days is that anime, being fully mainstream, has found a life outside of the hardcore community, and that's kind of amazing. The anime world has grown exponentially since the '80s, '90s, and early oughts, and we're just a small part of it.
