Schmitt’s argument is unintentionally revealing. The “color revolutions” were non-violent, pro-democracy political movements aimed at ending autocratic regimes in former Soviet bloc nations. If the Democrats are leading a “color revolution,” then Trump is an autocrat & Schmitt is pro-autocrat.

This is one advantage of having the historical memory of authoritarianism, as I have from Brazil: you know that, when the regime is gone, the people who collaborated and acquiesced look terrible in retrospect. It may look reasonable and justifiable now, but believe me, it will age like milk.

A reminder: Trump 1.0 ordered the Afghanistan withdrawal, and Trump 2.0 granted the shooter asylum this past April. Trump 2.0 also dismantled the joint terrorism task force, and gutted our national security apparatus.
