Happy Boards of Canada Inferno day everybody!

I don't often get giddy about new releases, but for me there's Faith No More, then Boards of Canada and then a yawning wide canyon and then the rest of music ever. There's lots I like in the rest of bit, but none of it is those two. Even an uneven album from either is a gift to mankind.

The Guardian could at least have got someone who's stock comment about BOC isn't "I liked their first album". I'm not about to place this new album top of the pile or anything, but it's decent and not just more of the same...

First pass listen to Inferno - better than Tomorrow's Harvest. "Hydrogen, Helium, Lithium, Leviathan" is a straight up banger out the gate.

the new Boards of Canada sounds like a very solid soundtrack to a well-regarded atmospheric metroidvania game, which feels like them closing the loop on all the indie game composers who were directly influenced by Boards of Canada.

Hubris is a wonderful thing. In my efforts to sneak in a listen to the new Boards of Canada album early, I discovered one of my pairs of headphones is broken and my current turntable cannot deal with heavy bass notes, so now I'm £150 worse off having to replace that.

If sports journalists weren't all raging alcoholics then they might be able to pick a consistent line between talking about "the integrity of the game" and saying that Southampton's punishment is "a bit harsh, they shouldn't have been kicked out" despite admitting to 3 cases of spying.

I loved the honesty of Seamus Coleman's announcement, it's clearly a sore point a player like him will never get to lift a trophy and that there have been too many difficult times while he's been at the club. No sugar coating, hopefully he'll stay on as a coach, but all the best to him.

Brigador was excellent with a great story in spite of me being garbage at it. The Make-Up And Vanity Set soundtrack and remixes are also incredible. If Cyberpunk, Syndicate and a variety of violent mechs are your jam, check it out. Very much looking forward to what Brigador Killers.

As always with Amanita - this just looks superb. They're in that tear with a few other special studios where it's truly the best of gaming. Creative (art is made from cardboard for this one!), seemingly decent labour deal etc. Protect them at all costs from the ripples of the collapsing juggernaut.
