Time to kill in most shooters is a matter of single digit seconds and you might not even see who did it, a match in a fighting game is gonna be at minimum like a minute or more of watching yourself be systematically outplayed. It's a massive morale crusher and the true barrier to entry

In fighting games the match starts with a steel cage closing down around you and your opponent tells you "I got you for three minutes. Three minutes of play time." Getting your ass beat in a fighting game feels different and I can't blame average people for not liking it
