i left the church and have nothing to do with it anymore but something happens when i see priests and pastors and rabbis and imams and sikhs at protests going so hard in mega harsh conditions i get choked up. this is how all of that is supposed to be. that's what all of that is supposed to be for.

As it is currently 12 degrees "feels like 8" in Denver, I am thinking of all those braving the cold to protect their neighbors in Minnesota right now and holding them in my heart.

In Europe last fall, I got to chatting with some Canadians on the elevator. I said “we love Canada” just as they were stepping out on the floor and the woman turned around to look at me and said “we love you too, but we hate him.” And I nodded. And every time I think about that, my heart aches.

The parents who were livid about children wearing masks are aok with masked men taking a child across the country to a detention center. Our basic problem is a level of propaganda that our country has never experienced before and a populace who can’t recognize it.

I know research shows that shaming doesn’t work, but there’s a lot of people right now who really deserve to fell some shame. I really want to tell them they suck.

I’m still waiting on the “don’t tread on me” crowd to be as mad about armed masked men breaking down doors without warrants as they were about wearing a mask to Applebee’s…

God it’s so tiring with these people. They keep saying “we didn’t arrest the 5 year old” or we didn’t “target the five year old.” No one said you did, we said you used him as bait and shipped across the country to a detention center, which you did!

Yesterday, I drove refugees that had been shipped off to Texas all the way back home to St. Paul Seeing them reunite with their families reminded me this is their home. So keep sending them to Texas. I’ll keep driving ‘em back and introducing them to Bucc-ee’s and KC barbecue along the way.

I understand it’s like this for everyone but Springsteen is the celebrity on my feed and it fascinates me that he says “we have a right to protest” or something & doofuses reply that he hasn’t had a good album in 20 years. Not true, but even if it were, so what? Still more recently than you, bub.

I have given a lot of thought to the relationships broken by politics but this weekend I was reminded that many relationships are strengthened. Acquaintances have become deep friends, because we appreciate that each of us cares about the world.

I practically worship Springsteen but for a decade I had a quick answer to the question “what’s his worst album?” High Hopes. Easy. Today, I gave it a skim and the nearly defeated refrain “come on we gotta keep the fire going” in Dream Baby Dream nearly broke me. Maybe I just had to be ready.

I don’t know how people are just going about their lives, I say, as I pack up the Christmas decorations and do the grocery shopping.

On the upside, this is all great fodder for the next Springsteen album.

A baby boomer I know wrote a post on FB today about what it was like to be young and believe in the future and now feel like, basically, it was all a lie. And that the future is behind us. And it was so depressing I can’t shake it. And I’m not a baby boomer but feel the same way.

I just will never be able to get over the hypocrisy of it all.

It’s hard to see how any of this is going to end well.

Everytime I get sick now, I end up also injuring myself. Like I pull a muscle coughing, or throw my back out sleeping on the sofa. Getting old is tough stuff.

Maybe we should leave stockings up all year round and just use it as a way to give ourselves little treats.

This has been a good year for me personally, but just a disaster for the country. And it’s hard to imagine that the disastrous national situation won’t affect me soon enough. I’ve never experienced such an odd feeling around a new year’s eve… well, that’s not true - last year’s was pretty bad too.

This is a serious question. Of all the problems with social media, why did they decide to make it impossible to see who liked your posts. “Oh that nice, my old coworker liked the picture of my grandbaby” - this is the feeling they are trying to prevent?

I listened to George Strait’s “Christmas Cookies” when looking for newish holiday songs. I listened again, incredulous at how bad it was. I then played it for my family so they could mock it with me. That’s it. 3 plays and it’s now being served to me as one of my “go-to” songs. I hate the algorithm.
