📈 Once niche, health economics is now central to the field. A new study shows its share in top journals tripled since the 1990s—driven not by conformity, but by innovative, high-quality research. Health is shaping the future of economics.

It is with great sadness that I learned today of the passing of my friend, mentor, and co-author Dr. Allen Goodman. Allen was an exceptional mentor and was kind, thoughtful, and supportive. I am passing his legacy on, teach the next generation of health economists.

I’ve had the privilege of serving the country in 2 different government agencies ~10 years apart. At the FTC I was in charge of about 120 people as head of the Bureau of Economics. I'm so glad Randy Ellis won the @ashecon.bsky.social Victor R. Fuchs Lifetime Achievement Award this past year. His work on the nitty gritty of risk adjustment and managed competition is so important for health care policy. I keep being reminded of this fact as new papers come across my desk.
