There’s a preponderance of evidence that involuntary commitment does more harm than good. These calls are less about helping and more about punishing and/or removing people. Even if the intent is to help, the evidence shows this is *not* how to help.

The police department said it wasn't disciplining the cop who beat the teen because there wasn't enough evidence. Except he admitted to hitting the teen on another cop's body camera! The cop who hit the teen wasn't using his own camera in violation of policy but wasn't punished for that either!

In one case, gang cops chased down some random teenagers and threatened to kill them. One cop pistol whipped one of the teens. The civilian review board recommended that he be fired. Instead, the police commissioner promoted him.

The Boston Office of Police Accountability and Transparency has so far sustained 18 citizen complaints and has proposed varying levels of discipline. But public records show Police Commissioner Michael Cox has routinely flouted even modest disciplinary recommendations.

He's had to wear it because the DA's office didn't drop the case until a day before a scheduled pretrial hearing even though prosecutors said in court months ago that the case couldn't be tried again if it was overturned.

He can't come out and say exactly what he means because he won't even acknowledge the real reason the conviction was overturned in the first place.

Gulluni also complains that the case "raises important questions about the finality of verdicts and the consistency of our justice system." He seems to be suggesting that there's something wrong with courts overturning wrongful convictions that involved egregious government misconduct.

Wright might not have been prosecuted at all if investigators had followed up on this evidence instead of hiding it and lying about it for decades.

This is not a case of someone "getting off on a technicality," it's a case where police and prosecutors withheld evidence that could have been used to show that a different person committed the murder.

In a statement to the press, Gulluni now claims that the judge overturned Wright's conviction "based on procedural concerns dating back to the original trial." This is simply a lie. As I reported, the judge overturned the case because prosecutors withheld key evidence and a cop lied under oath.
