Charlottesville's unwillingness to build new housing forces people to live in Ruckersville and drive in, which just means more demand for car-centric infrastructure and more space consumed by parking.

It would be helpful to have a term for legacy US automakers, which I assume what posts like this mean. It's hard to interpret these sentiments in light of Tesla, an American automaker. I'm not advocating for Tesla, but, their EV influence is undeniable.

Oh, it's not just me! Bike for a while and drivers just do whatever they want, whenever they want. Everything is a parking spot, everywhere is a good u-turn, road markings are mere suggestions, no turn on red signs are optional, and red lights are just really long yellows.

We've entered a new phase of the water main replacement on Locust: not closing the road to finish faster, but also not filling the holes to make the road passable (especially on two wheels) either. Fun.

The city is ok with completely shutting down downtown businesses, preventing all emergency response and disabled access, for what, to fix a few bumps? The dt mall will never recover, better invest in stonefield while you can and cancel your UVA graduation dinner reservation.

I'm not a huge suburbs supporter, but I have to say they certainly understand snow removal way more than the city. Even the farthest parking spots are spotless at Barracks. Whereas I can't even get home because my street and sidewalks are impassable.

So I'm supposed to have my sidewalk cleared within 24 hours but the city doesn't even have to plow my street once in that time? I don't understand the double standard. #charlottesville

I think this is true (hopefully it's not) but if Charlottesville had set a goal last December of increasing the city's protected bike lanes by at least 1 foot in 2025, they would not be on track to meet that goal.

1. UVA’s (already low) Black enrollment drops 25%. 2. DOJ alleges anti-white discrimination. 3. UVA’s right-wing leadership cuts “deal.” UVA is now legally barred from taking LEGAL steps designed to fix (1). It was never a “deal.” It was a rigged “negotiation” to freeze these demographics.

This is harmful not just because it's victim blaming, but that it creates a false equivalence in terms of the responsibility of drivers and pedestrians: "bright clothes, headlights on." Drivers have *much more* responsibility to keep road users safe! And that includes not speeding.

Presumably, the late notice was an attempt to be strategic and avoid scrutiny? That seems to have backfired as it makes the response urgent and not something to get to later when time frees up (which it never does).

The bar is low in Charlottesville, but two new (short, painted) bike lanes are exciting! One at McCormick and University, and the other east on JPA at Brandon.
