I find myself thinking about how far we’ve fallen in the era of Trumpism. Think back to 2016 and Hillary’s email server “scandal”. GOP was chanting lock her up for using an email server at home. Today, Trump is literally accepting foreign bribes through his unregulated crypto and the GOP is mute.

Democrats messaging for shutdown: - GOP has House, Senate, and White House. - GOP does not need Dem votes for a funding bill, they could abolish filibuster with simple majority. - If they want Dem votes, it is incumbent on them to negotiate. - All Dems want is a negotiation. GOP is refusing.

I have an argument I believe could win Democrats the shutdown. So here it goes… Trump campaigned and won in 2024 on the promise to lower prices. But prices are high and going higher and the job market is weak and getting weaker.

I truly believe there is one solution not yet tried to stop the ever increasing goose-stepping to authoritarianism. Democrats and Left leaning independents need to organize a PAC to flood competitive GOP primaries with money and voters to install ordinary folks who will stand up to Trump.

Trump has won at every level of the court system since January. He’s defeated every indictment, every attempt to remove him from the ballot, and even had his civil suits overturned in some cases. How on earth could one believe “they (Democrats) own the legal system”?

And knowing Trump, he will probably get it. Now the TikTok deal makes sense.

The fight over the shutdown should not be about “who is to blame” but rather “why” it is necessary. The why is because Democrats are sincere. They’re sincere about protecting people’s healthcare. They’re sincere about standing up to Trump. And they’re sincere about fighting for the working class.

There has never been a moment in American history post Jim Crow where the threat against We the People has been so severe and tangible as is today. This is a defining moment in the history of America. We cannot back down!
