Hard to find the words for my disappointment in management or rage (but definitely not surprise) toward Alden. One person laid off â housing reporter Lizzie Kane â had a screamer, front-page scoop last week. Defies reason to send that kind of talent out the door. This cut will have ripple effects.

A local newspaper is a rare thing. It's the city's institutional memory, the chronicle of a place and its people, of problems to be addressed, of public promises kept or broken. New York needs the Daily News, and the Daily News needs the support of New Yorkers.
