A local newspaper is a rare thing. It's the city's institutional memory, the chronicle of a place and its people, of problems to be addressed, of public promises kept or broken. New York needs the Daily News, and the Daily News needs the support of New Yorkers.

It's great to see so many titans of journalism on this list, all people who understand the importance of the New York Daily News. If only the paper's current owners and current leadership had even a fraction of the wit and wisdom of the folks listed below...
