Very cool new archive online: 5,000 historic American restaurant menus, searchable by location, year, and other settings. One Portland menu supposedly featured "Mount Tabor owls, roasted" (possibly a joke?) which may be a challenge to recreate for contemporary chefs!

Lovely essay on the late Abdullah Ibrahim. ‘Mannenberg’ is a great place to start if you’re interested in what American jazz can sound like when grafted onto Cape & Jo’burg rhythms, but the gorgeous work he made for Enja from 1979–97 is sorely underrated – ‘Toi-Toi’, ‘Zimbabwe’, ‘Pule (Rain)’...

Last image from tonight (short film in the morning): this brother out here with his Singer sewing machine, gifting people a custom embroidery on their jerseys and hats with the name and the date, was more artistic than anything at Burning Man and ad gorgeous as a Caravaggio. Magic! Goodnight.

Some more pics of LEONORA CARRINGTON’s drawings from the time she spent at a Spanish sanatorium in the early 1940s. They’re so delicate, which makes them very difficult to see from these pics, but the exhibition is fascinating and well worth a trip! At The Freud Museum in London.
