Artists, quote with your yellow art! I did a few mothmans with a good amount of yellow, but this was the only all yellow fellow!

I went to a convenience store I’d never been to before to pick up a package & was delighted to discover it’s also got all kinds of very homemade-looking Tunisian treats. I got mlewi (a beautiful layered flatbread) & makroudh (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makroudh) & both were absolutely fabulous 😍

I went to work in a local café this morning and had the most wonderful chat with an older fellow beside me — he told me all about his very cool & interesting family & entertained me while I drew the most boring part of my illustration. What a lovely way to start the day 💕

To note — this back garden is at least 90% Ontario native plants (minus any herbs / veg we plant yearly) and now that I’m on year 4, things are really settling in and I have WAY fewer unwanted plants popping up 👍

My garden is looking super lush & charming these days, so here’s a little after lunch stroll through the best bit (at the moment — we have some more work to do on the other side of the yard as soon as this heatwave breaks)!

Still pretty quiet here because I have a market on the 20th and am deep in glaze-mode! Just got enough done for glaze fire number one…now onto glazing for round two!

One of my goals this week was to put my body in the lake, no matter how cold it was (about 8-10°c, turns out) & it took me til the last full day (the others were a bit too chilly), but I did it!! It was tingly & good & I can’t wait til the temp is right for a real swim 😍

Also love how the writing is intricate and deep, but not without humour and warmth. I expected something terribly sad (& there was plenty of that), but it was so much more nuanced and human than I thought it would be. This is definitely going to stick as a favourite for the year!

I’m so glad I saved this one for my week at the cottage — I was able to properly appreciate its slow, meditative pace and lush prose up here. A truly delicious book.

I’ve been up at my favourite place all week & for once we had a smooth, beautiful-weather’d opening-time (after 4yrs w/varying levels of disaster/things not working). Can’t wait to get back up later in the summer for my long stay!!!

Ladder to Heaven by Katie Welch is one of my favourite books I’ve read this year and a beautiful, deeply human take on postapocalypse(ish) fiction with a really messed up protagonist i completely fell in love with!

The ones I actually saw (outside of the usual suspects like robins & chickadees & etc) include: black-throated blue, yellow, blackburnian, yellow-rumped, a few of the sparrows, northern parula, a chestnut-sided (not heard), and the rose-breasted grosbeak!!

I love living close to a good chunk of riverside greenspace where I can go and try to see tiny little migrating birds in the morning (whyyy are warblers so fast?! Even with my scope I kept missing them, but did see a few more than yesterday!).
