I wanted to run a Trek RPG campaign where the Tholians go to war and the Federation gets their ass kicked because the Tholians experience spacetime non-linearly. Their territory is non-contiguous, they don't have a "front line" as we understand it and their ships just SHOW UP in alarming places.

Entirely worth watching. But you have to have some context I think. When this movie came out, no one had ever seen a science fiction subject treated so seriously. Completely deadpan. No one winking at the audience. Contemporaneous reviews said it was like watching a documentary. Imagine that!

Something I'm noticing as a player, having a Talent in the party? Fighting "MCDM Dwarves?" These things are so weird, so non-standard, they feel genuinely fantastical in a way normal fantasy nonsense does not, to me, anymore. They evoke fantasy for me, now, the way normal fantasy did as a kid.

I think Timothy Olyphant is giving one of the best, most subtle, performances of his career in Alien Earth and there's just no one out there to ask him about it. He does all the junkets and shows, actual acting choices never come up.
