“AI” isn’t a tool or technology or even a cluster of technologies with a misleading name. It’s the infrastructure at the foundation of a form of capitalism dependent on data brokering. We should be teaching our students about this and not teaching them about “responsible” use.

Here's a site that searches scientific publications for phrases that indicate that the text was created by ChatGPT and pasted into the manuscript without checking (e.g. "Certainly, here are some recommendations..."). There are HUNDREDS of them, often without disclosure of AI. 1/2 www.academ-ai.info

That's how (academic) writing is like for me too, but I realized recently that this is not at all universal -- some people really do start typing with a very clear picture of what the end product will be and so barely need to edit anything 🤯

This is really important. Academic editors don’t have to let cruelty go through to authors. Which doesn’t mean limiting genuine informed criticism. But most of the stories you hear about horrible peer reviews should have been stopped.
