Re: Cam Little's new FG record: 68 yards. Don't underestimate the impact that the K ball preparation change that passed this offseason has had on FG distance. Kickers can now practice with the same balls they kick with on gamedays, instead of getting only an hr to break in a brand new ball pregame.

Since '99, the kicking ball prep had more restrictions than QB ball prep. Officials brought the K balls to the field & teams only had 60 minutes pregame to work on them. For yrs, coaches have been talking about making the Kball process consistent. What changed this yr? www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/...

ok more context: teams still are limited to water, towel, brush, sponge BUT the key difference is that kickers are kicking w/ same balls during PRACTICE that they use in the game. Before, they had no idea what the ball would be like on Sundays. that meant their game FG range was not same as practice

the K ball process 1999-2024 only allowed teams 2:15 to work up the K balls pregame w/only a wet towel, brush tacky sponge. Now, teams get the week to prepare them. One coach told me ahead of this vote in March that the condition of the K ball is so important it determines FG range
