Butchers Broom now has large shiny red berries. It is an ‘ancient woodland indicator’ because it doesn’t spread easily to new woods. So where you see it, the woodland has usually been there for a very long time.

Plenty of Pied Wagtails hunting for flies this morning around the wetlands. By now they will be roosting within the reedbeds. But sadly, these wetlands like, so many in Britain, are now home to the invasive Australian Swampweed.
