Also, I want to be clear: autistic people with high support needs do have significant challenges. People with it have lower life expectancy, face more risks to health and institutionalization. They deal with self-injury and risk death from epilepsy. They deserve services that ameliorate it.

There are people who think that people myself who have written about autism acceptance diminish their needs. That couldn't be further from the truth. Accepting autistic people means accepting ALL autistic people. Not just the convenient ones like myself. It means providing them the proper supports

Actually, I'll add to that, child or no, ALWAYS listen to what someone is saying whether it be verbal or written or a form of sign language. The fact people will use having a childlike mind or demeanor as a reason to dismiss very legitimate and serious concerns is a problem.

I have a lot of thoughts about this that should be more composed before I fully go off, but for now I'll just say that NEVER assume that because someone is non-verbal, that they don't have anything to say. Also don't assume they have the mind of a child. That is so fucked up.
