I don't like when anthropologists use current hunter-gatherer societies to generalize about what those societies were like in prehistory. These people have 12k years more experience, they are doing it way better than my ancestors did.

The answer is you have to ask the server's income (wages + tips) to date. If less than $11,600 you can tip 10% less (percent not percentage points). If more, 12% less. If more *and* they have made more than $25,000 in tips alone you need to tip the same as before. All very simple and intuitive.
