This fine book arrived. Already deeply into it. HT @wordkunst.bsky.social. Back in the smoky 70s, Dr. John's Gris-gris was often the last album played before going to bed. The book is a kind of social history of New Orleans in Black and White music with a side of creative dreamery and voodoo.

I listened to it last night (c/o the website) so it's definitely working. I was genuinely quite shocked, dismayed certainly, that attitudes like Parris's still exist at the BBC - his condescending little laughs throughout were irritating but his comment at the end was unacceptable. Worradick'ead.

Now that we know the Corbyn antisemitism campaign was strategised and coordinated by Jeffrey Epstein’s ‘best pal’, would any journalists like to explain why Corbyn’s pronunciation of his surname was more concerning than the fact that the guy briefing them up to that point had stayed in his house?

Indeed! Another question worth asking might be why so many journalists continued to entertain Mandelson as a moral arbiter on the state of the Labour Party and receive briefings from him and his protégé at a time when Epstein was even still alive and Mandelson was possibly still in contact with him!

It's great how the media are prepping the ground for Starmer to have lost his job because of Peter Mandelson and nasty emails from staffers ten years ago, rather than because his entire political strategy has demonstrably failed by being far too right-wing.

It's the confluence of: a) No viable replacement b) No election test until May '26 c) Starmer & McSweeney being existentially bound together d) Total eradication all opposing views e) Budget in November f) Press nonetheless done with him that make this particular case uniquely, morbidly hilarious.
