Just realised that this time last year I was flying to Australia. A lots happened in the past 12 months but I’m so glad I went on that six-week adventure around Australia and New Zealand.

Watched Top Secret! for the first time. Caused more smiles & chuckles than proper laughs & my favourite gag was the Peter Cushing magnifying glass one. I did spend most of the film trying to figure out where I knew Nigel (Christopher Villiers) from - turns out he was in Emmerdale in the late 2000s.

The restaurant is called Senza Fondo and the bottomless slow-cooked beef shin lasagna was so good! I managed two portions and am home and ready for a nap.

Got a three day weekend as I’m making the most of mum not being around and took Monday off as TOIL. Gonna hopefully have lie ins, watch films/TV shows, and read books.

Just noticed we forgot to pack the plastic sliders mum wears in the shower. I gotta drive by the care home due to road closures so I guess I’ll drop them off on my way to work but it’ll still be after she’d usually have a shower so I’m probably gonna get a call asking where they are in the morning 😩

Dropped mum off at a care home for 2 weeks respite. Honestly went a lot smoothly than last time (there were no tears or tantrums from either of us) as I think she now accepts that we (mostly I) need a break (it’s been almost 8 months of living together) and a change of scenery can do some good.

Half star reviews of my Letterboxd top 4. There was only like five 1/2 star reviews of Banlieue 13 which was a pleasant surprise.

Battleship (2012) is not a good film but Rihanna is hot and the bit where all the old retired Navy guys come to teach the modern sailors how to sail the old battleship gets me every time (I’ve seen this film twice)

One of my best friends from college happens to be in Cambridge today so I’m on my way to meet her for lunch ☺️ I do love lazy weekends (which I don’t tend to get cos of mum anymore) but spontaneous ones with friends you only see every 6ish months are also great.

My main takeaway from #HowToMakeAKilling was I spent almost the entire runtime going “who is that?! Where do I know them from?!” and it wasn’t until the credits I realised it was Jessica Henwick who is great and needs to be in more things.

Sinners deserves Best Cinematographer simply for the fact that it's a modern movie where you can tell what's going on during all the night scenes

#ProjectHailMary was fantastic! Loved the book and it’s such a wonderful adaptation - it’s funny and thoughtful and full of heart. Ryan Gosling is brilliant, the score is beautiful, and it’s visually stunning.

Had a great day. Saw lots of cool stuff from ancient Egypt, went to my old favourite Chinese restaurant for lunch, had ice cream in the sunshine and saw Project Hail Mary - an excellent film & a great adaptation of wonderful book.

Plans for today include going to an exhibition on Ancient Egypt, having lunch out and/or sitting in a cafe with my book, and seeing Project Hail Mary in IMAX.

I think I’m getting a cold 😩

Update: got a new MRI appointment on the 18th which is exactly a week before the appointment with the orthopaedic surgeon and they’ve confirmed they’ll flag the results need to be fast tracked.

Mum’s got antibiotics for what looks like a skin infection on her neck. It’s 4 pills a day taken either at least 1 hour before food or 2 hours after food. I have no idea how to stick to that for the 2 pills she’s gotta take while I’m at work when she just helps herself to food whenever she wants it.

Probably should have a chat to my mum about how the only way I felt like I could relax after work was to drive to my old flat, park up and then lie on the back seat and have a nap for an hour 🙃

Went to the pub for Sunday lunch and met the loviest dog who was an Alsatian/Retriever mix. He was a big softie 💕
