In American high schools, many teenagers are assigned few full books to read from beginning to end — often just one or two per year, according to researchers and thousands of responses to an informal reader survey by The New York Times.

Mayor's folks are trying the line that TAD funds come only from "future tax growth". True in 1998. False in 2025. The future is now with $200M of taxes being diverted from APS, City, County. Mayor's team say, "Once the TAD closes ... it increases APS funding." Exactly. So close them already!

Seems property tax reform will be the theme of GA Legislature ‘26. We cannot in good faith talk property tax relief without school finance reform. Locals are feeling the squeeze because the state has continually walked back Ed $$. This is a state made problem that needs a state solution.

I will GO TO MY GRAVE beating this drum. Republicans (and Democrats) can win on pro-public education platforms in Georgia. The MAJORITY of voters in Georgia send their kids to public schools. Georgia’s 2026 majority will go to whichever party can figure out this nuance first.

Another flip by a Dem who ran as a strong supporter of public education. One common theme emerging in these upsets: winning candidates sound nothing like centrists & pundits when it comes to talking about schools.

Admittedly, I don’t play kingmaker games for a reason, but is it not at least a little frowned upon that our governor can’t find anyone in his party from his own state, to back in our senatorial election?

It would be really cool if the majority party in GA could take the lesson from HD121 that human-centered affordability and livability is a winning message over pure partisan division. It won’t happen and our legislative session will be horrible, but it would be cool.

Just finished a visit with one of my clients and I’m so depressed. Seniors are suffering while politicians play pass the funding game with tax payer money. THE SENIORS IN THIS COUNTRY ARE SUFFERING WHILE POLITICIANS PLAY BASEBALL WITH TAXPAYER MONEY.

Dems talking about flipping seats in ‘26 and ‘28 better have a clear plan for how they’re going to rebuild. I’m not talking about “hope and change.” I’m talking what is the timeline for codifying Roe, passing ERA, reinstating VRA, restoring DOJ, rebuilding DOE. Anything less is simply unserious.

Years ago I remember a colleague lamenting the challenge of ever increasing revenue for education because constitutionally, Colorado has to have a statewide vote on any initiative to raise income tax. This is incredible work that’s a long time coming.

Looks like the Dems will pick up 12 seats in the VA House of Delegates, which will go from 51-49 to 63-37 D-R. That's an honestly shocking result.

We have a $14B surplus… We aren’t bailing out Washington, we’re bailing out Georgians. 1 in 8 Georgians are on SNAP. ATL is the world’s busiest airport. We have some of the lowest literacy rates in the country. If this isn’t a rainy day, what is?

If a music streaming platform found a way to offer a one-time download/transfer of all playlists and follow data from Spotify, ala the great migration from GoodReads to StoryGraph, I suspect they’d see a significant influx of users pretty quickly.

The depth of the shame of a country this wealthy and abundant allowing its people to go hungry is impossible to measure. The fact that a handful of people could fix this by paying their fair share of taxes while still remaining obscenely wealthy makes it even worse.

I have never had any desire to live in California, but this made me cry. We could have this in GA. We could use our taxes to take care of people. Instead, we are sitting on a $16B surplus while state officials tell SNAP recipients to “plan ahead” for their funds to run out. We deserve better.
