I’ve seen a lot of calls to fire Dan Wilson, and yelling about Cal/Julio/Naylor, and the mixed bag rotation, but I’ve yet to see anyone pointing fingers at the Mariners being 16-19 in the aggressively marketed Amazon fire tv era. When in doubt, blame Bezos

Inspired by the air horn echoing cavernously in the ninth inning of a lackluster, rainy losing game with approximately 984 people in attendance: Do you think there is a point when they turn off the air horn and/or “GET LOUD” pump up commands?

Per @baseball_ref, the Rockies' 1-0 loss tonight was only their fourth 1-0 home defeat in club history, and their first such defeat in nearly 20 years, since Aug. 1, 2006.

“That was a good thump, you guys could probably hear it at home,” reports RyOn Healy on tonight’s broadcast, his voice a mix of excited horror. This man is exactly who he seemed when he played and while I’m not sure how that bodes for his longterm career in the booth, it is wildly entertaining to me

I know I’m lashing out and there are bigger issues, but if you sign a guy to do one job, which is functionally less of a job and more just a way of being (hitting right-handed), it’s probably not ideal that guy has only been on base three times (none due to hits) and is averaging four pitches per PA

Bit of an echo chamber I know, but if you listen to this podcast - or other baseball pods - and have feedback, we’d love to hear it. This episode was a trial run with fewer folks and a shorter run time, aiming to be more timely. Did you like it? Hate it? Miss last week’s Rockies content? Let us know

On Saturday, I watched my mom become the #1 Emmanuel De Jesus fan. Did that mean she spent most of Monday’s game demanding to know why they weren’t bringing Emmanuel De Jesus in? Yes. Am I now attempting to create from scratch an Emmanuel De Jesus jersey for her? Also yes. The WBC is so great

How to describe the experience of Venezuelan players at a fraught political time in VZ and the US? The Red Sox’ 5 Venezuelan players - Narváez, Abreu, Suarez, Contreras, Monasterio - offered insight into what Abreu called a “double life.” Story for Globe Magazine:

The Red Sox’ Venezuelan players are persevering despite turmoil back home. They always have. - The Boston Globe
Even before the US ousted then-President Nicolás Maduro, players from the South American country have straddled two very different situations. Their difficult path is rarely discussed.

The role they describe in here I think is incredibly valuable. Narrative/storytelling is crucial in decision making. If you can't synthesize and defend your philosophy at a high level in plain language, then you don't understand it. Broad strokes, watercolors, picturing the view from 50K feet, etc.
