I’m in an opining mood… My most-used use cases for AI is when I’m debugging some poorly documented open source software. I find it to be a much better use of my time to have a short back and forth with an agent about some esoteric u-boot configuration than digging through decades of mailing lists.

“I don’t think we put enough effort into system design” gets me a lot of pushback, but it sure is fun watching my systems install an 8GB update in half the time it takes another system to install a 1.5MB update.

I used to think the joke was “Hank doesn’t understand systems.” It took me 25 years to get that this among the most sincere and correct things Hank ever said.
