I kinda like these days when I’m just interviewing people IRL and realize in the afternoon that I haven’t even opened my laptop the whole day because I’m recording the sessions on my phone and the interview script is on printed sheets of paper.

Wrapping up the first month of consulting work and doing design systems research. I’ve kinda missed this tbh.

Hospital: *We’ve booked you a surgery with anesthesia and several weeks of recovery two weeks from now, you can make it right* Me: *wait what, I need like a year to prepare mentally*

Stoked to share that I recently started working with Kesko Group (www.kesko.fi/en/company/k...) to help them establish a more robust design system infrastructure. Currently, I’m conducting background research, but as we move along with this work, expect to see more updates about the progress. ☺️

Did an extra circle around the Laajalahti bay before heading back home to finish 100km. 🚴‍♀️

A while ago there was kerfuffle about web components: frameworks were mad that they had to detect if templates contained custom elements so they could switch between cloneNode and importNode. That was confusing to me: importNode is the correct way to clone a template because it adopts nodes too...

Let’s see if I still remember how to use a computer after this holiday. (Re)starting my own company in 1.5 weeks, but so far during the past 4 weeks I don’t think I’ve used my laptop much/at all. Instead have travelled to 7 different countries. Now finally back in Helsinki though.

Traveled through Germany to Austria, then Liechtenstein, and ended up in Switzerland. Captured this view yesterday from Mt. Pilatus (in Switzerland) which apparently also has the steepest cogwheel railway in the world with 48% gradient (yes, it was slightly scary ~35 minutes going up 😅)

2+ weeks into summer vacation & quitting my full time job and I’m starting to get better at not doing anything at all and actually enjoying it. (Those who know me better may know that this is quite an achievement that I’m not even working on some open source project at this stage)

We ran a randomized controlled trial to see how much AI coding tools speed up experienced open-source developers. The results surprised us: Developers thought they were 20% faster with AI tools, but they were actually 19% slower when they had access to AI than when they didn't.
