The closing talk is being delivered by Maria Harrison. Maybe showing my Cornell bias, but her work is amazing as is her mentorship (so I’ve heard). Maria summarizes the progress and current state of the field of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi: “the most important symbiosis in the world”. #2025ISMPMI

Leonie Zott brings up the often overlooked phage in the microbiome. She shows that the phyllosphere and Pseudomonas viridiflavae pathogenicity can be impacted by phage lysis on the leaf. #2025ISMPMI

Charles Copeland (@hotvegetables.bsky.social) studied root architecture changes in Arabidopsis in response to Pseudomonas strains. Different accessions vary in transcriptional response and root changes, mapped to a plant QTL and identified bacterial components. #2025ISMPMI

Microbiome session at #2025ISMPMI: @dorruss12.bsky.social kicks off the session. Using barcoded mutant libraries, he identified bacterial colonization genes. Among them was an efflux pump family - hypothesize that they help commensals survive glucosinolate breakdown products during plant defense.
