First day in the @sfchronicle.com newsroom was disorienting but fun! (I’ve been working in the same place for 26 years, and never worked in a high rise.) Walked to work, took the 1 California to an assignment, ate a decent salad, had a good time with my colleagues. Change is ok. Life goes on. 🗞️❤️

Grew up across the street from a grove of these and they were an absolute menace. My mom was constantly writing City Hall to trim them. One finally destroyed a house. Also made a huge mess. I hate eucalyptus trees. Wish we could snap our fingers and replace them all with Monterey cypress.

Jessica is so good. We often work together on an outdoors story, but visit the same space during different times. Her photos help me see things I missed, and patterns I didn’t process the first time. I often go back for a rewrite after seeing things through her lens. 📸 🐐 ❤️

Dread Zeppelin. I was super broke so going to a show or movie was a once-a-month thing and a big deal. They played maaaybe 25 min., acted bored (it's hard to seem disinterested in an Elvis costume) complained about the venue then bounced. Red Hot Chili Peppers at Bridge concert was a close second.

I interviewed a small town toy store owner on Friday and envied him so much. He’s not looking to scale up, or let AI sell the toys, or sue the neighboring toy owner for all his toys. Just making a pretty ok living selling one Lego set & Nee Doh after another to a relentlessly joyful customer base.

That was my 1st Bay to Breakers Tee I earned, when you had to pick it up after completing the race and a long walk to the Polo Fields for Footstock. The shirt read “I survived”. Today marks my 40th running of the Bay to Breakers. Here I am from the run 40 years ago in 1986.
