12:17 – Working through the jam and jelly data, I just came across this gem from 1791: a cookbook ad for De Utrechtse Keukenmeid, Confituurmaakster en Huisdoctores. It promises: “Geen Confituur of Vrucht kan bedacht worden of de Utrechtse Keukenmeid leert dezelve inleggen.” Great marketing!

But today... it’s all PRESERVARE. After quickly checking in on my inbox and task list, I've decided on the priorities for today. In the morning, I'll continue organising the data on jam and jelly that @mariekehendriksen.bsky.social has gathered. In the afternoon, I'll draft our next newsletter.

The rest of the week, I work on my PhD dissertation on the modern afterlives of Francis Bacon's theory of the idols. I’m currently revising the manuscript and putting the final touches on it— challenging, but also rewarding to see everything come together.

10:41 - Fully settled in at the Spinhuis. This desk is where I spend my Mondays and Thursdays (the role of project officer is part-time). My tasks include, among other things: communications (our website, social media, and newsletter), ERC admin, organising meetings and seminars, and copy-editing.
