A quick reminder that no dog died from missing a walk, but many dogs have died as a result of being exercised in hot weather! I've treated many dogs with heat stroke and it is often fatal. There's loads more useful info on preventing and treating heatstroke at Veterinary Voices UK!

2 months ago, a rescue pulled her from the euthanasia list at a shelter, where they picked her up starving after months as a stray. She's got a full belly, no more worms, and she's napping in the sunshine. My heart. ❤️ I will always choose rescue, and so should you. #rescue

#Caffimorning 17. Andrea Caffi’s “Mass Politics and the Pax Americana”, the final essay in our book, has only ever previously appeared (it’s not even on the web) in #dwightmacdonald ‘s “The Root is Man” 1953 edition. It’s not in the Autonomedia edition still in print.

It’s remarkable the number of prolific writers who wrote for the short-lived politics magazine. These include C. Wright Mills, Lewis Coser, David Riesman, Hannah Arendt, Albert Camus, George Orwell, Paul Goodman, Mary McCarthy, Daniel Bell, Nicola Chiaromonte, among others.

As Mike’s introduction shows, one of the key figures who animated the magazine was the obscure Russian-Italian thinker Andrea Caffi. Dwight Macdonald, the editor of the magazine, was particularly enamored with Caffi’s writings, which he was introduced to by Chiaromonte (who acted as a talent scout).

#Caffimorning 14. “politics”, edited by Dwight Macdonald, and the people around it, were analysed superbly by Gregory Macdonald in his 1996 “Dwight Macdonald and the “politics” circle”. We were delighted Gregory Sumner had a few things to say about our book.

#Caffimorning 15. “possibilities” was a magazine that only appeared once. It had 4 editors covering different “arts”. (One was painter Robert Motherwell, another musician John Cage).Caffi’s “On mythology” was one of the longer contributions and was illustrated with BW Mark Rothko material.

#Caffimorning 6. The sixth essay in the book is “The French Condition “. This introduces the “politics” special on French Political Writing, and is a historical and political survey which is still relevant. Caffi’s fellow authors in this edition include Sartre, Camus, Bataille, de Beauvoir.

#Caffimorning 3. The third essay in the book is “Is a revolutionary war a contradiction in terms?” and it sees Caffi debate Dwight Macdonald, his editor, and start to develop his nonviolent approach to socialism.
